Some Manchester United fans have found something positive in Saturday’s rather drab performance, as Fred showed some glimpses of his talent in a short cameo off the bench.
It’s fair to say the Fred versus Naby Keita debate is well and truly dead and buried.
When Liverpool and United signed the diminutive midfielders, it felt inevitable that they would be constantly scrutinised relative to each other, but the fact of the matter is they have both made so little impact the comparisons are now pointless.
While the Guinean has suffered from several injury problems at Liverpool, Fred has mustered just 25 appearances at Old Trafford, scoring only once.
However, fans liked what they saw from the £47m flop on Saturday, signed by Jose Mourinho, as he was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise lifeless 1-0 win against Leicester City.
Playing just 24 minutes as a substitute, the 26 year-old strung play together nicely in a manner that had been missing earlier in the game, completing 85.7% of his passes and one dribble, per WhoScored, as well as one tackle and three clearances.
Check out some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where fans are now hoping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives him a chance to redeem his forgetful start to his United career…
