Besiktas have held talks with the agent of Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic regarding a potential move, according to Turkish publication Fanatik.
What’s the word?
Ibrahimovic’s return to Old Trafford following his injury recovery was heavily hyped up.
After the hitman suffered knee ligament damage in April last year, many wondered whether the experienced footballer would ever play again.
Indeed, the Swede fought his way to fitness after signing a new deal at Old Trafford, but he has struggled to recreate last season’s form.
Ibrahimovic has made five Premier League appearances – started just the one – and his only goal so far came in the Carabao Cup.
It is a far cry from the 17 top-flight goals he struck in 18 appearances in the 2016-17 campaign.
Now, there have been suggestions that Ibrahimovic could be on the way out of Old Trafford this month.
Fanatik claims that Besiktas have held preliminary talks with the striker’s agent Mino Raiola about potentially replacing Cenk Tosun, who recently joined Everton.
Should United say goodbye?
Ibrahimovic was a vital figure last season for the North-West giants, but it is clear that he is not in the same form following his injury.
On social media and in interviews, the Swede has a playful arrogance about him and he can back up his comments with his success on the pitch.
However, bravado cannot hide the fact that he is a 36-year-old man coming back from a serious injury.
In the long run, it is best for United to find a player that can share the goal burden with Romelu Lukaku.
Ibrahimovic is entering the latter stages of his career, and while he has the ability to produce moments of magic, at the moment, the forward cannot be relied upon for goals.
