Despite a rousing comeback over Azerbaijan champions Quarabag in the Europa League, it’s probably fair to say Tottenham Hotspur haven’t had the best start to the season. The White Hart Lane club currently find themselves lurking around mid-table, with Harry Kane unable to net thus far.
Deadline day deals for Victor Wanyama and Saido Berahino were unable to be completed, leaving boss Maurico Pochettino a little light. £22m man Son Heung-min excelled in Thursday’s win, but a quiet debut at Sunderland over the weekend suggested the North London outfit could do with some extra additions.
Now the Emmanuel Adebayor saga has come to a conclusion, with the Togolese hitman finally released, Spurs have extra room to welcome new arrivals.
Should Daniel Levy wish to loosen the purse strings at the start of 2016, the Argentine he employs would surely be most grateful.
Here’s a look at some January additions that could help the club in their search for all things Champions League…
Saido Berahino
It will be interesting to see how the 22-year old bad boy Baggie deals with his current situation. After vowing to never play for chairman Jeremy Peace again, the England under-21 star is at The Hawthorns until January at the very least.
Despite his misdemeanours, there is a reason Spurs submitted four bids to try and secure the striker. A pacey, natural finisher, he could provide as good a partner to Harry Kane as would an alternative.
As the two begin their international careers, they could form a lethal partnership for both club and country.
Victor Wanyama
Another deal in which the player stated his desires to play for Tottenham, yet ultimately ended up staying put.
The 24-year old Kenyan captain would add real muscle to Spurs’ engine room, freeing up the likes of Ryan Mason to push forward. Mason proved with the winner against Sunderland, he has that extra something in his locker.
Should Pochettino bring the man he managed on the South Coast over to London with him, the former Celtic man would instantly strengthen the middle of the park.
AYOZE PEREZ
Linked with a switch to North London during the closing stages of the transfer window, this deal never get off the ground in quite the same manner as the aforementioned.
However, with Newcastle struggling at the foot of the table so far, a move for their talented young Spaniard is a realistic possibility.
The Magpies have previously sold Yohan Cabaye mid-season, so there not adverse to dealing in the New Year market,
Perez would certainly add an injection of creativity, whether as a Number 10 or a centre forward, to a side who have often looked out of ideas.
JAMES WILSON
Should Manchester United bring in a big money striker, James Wilson could be afforded a temporary transfer away from the club.
Though relatively untested in the Premier League, Spurs could do a lot worse than brining in the Old Trafford youngster.
A partnership with Kane is exciting, with both young English stars able to bounce off each other, as well as pounce on chances.
By no means a huge name, perhaps Levy would be more inclined to give Wilson a chance as he tries to save funds ahead of Spurs’ stadium move.
MOUSSA SISSOKO
Another Magpies midfielder could be a good fit for the North Londoners. The French international has pace and power, two mouth-watering attributes when you add Christian Eriksen at the supply lines into the mix.
He has previously been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, and his versatility across the middle of the park could help the club through a gruelling campaign, in which they are likely to be aiming to challenge on four fronts.
Able to pop up with a goal or two, the burden currently weighing down on Kane could be lifted with the arrival of Sissoko.
