According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have joined the hunt to sign £48million-rated Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.
What’s the Word?
Last week, Sky Sports reported that Manchester United had opened discussions with Inter Milan over a move for 28-year-old Perisic. However, it has emerged that Chelsea are also keen to land the Croatian.
The Premier League champions have enquired about Perisic and have been told that they will need to pay £48million to land their man
How good has Perisic been this season?
The Croatian international has arguably had his most prolific season of domestic football in 2016/17. Perisic was one of the star players for Inter Milan in another campaign of underachievement, scoring 15 goals and claiming eight assists.
The former Wolfsburg man has been a constant threat from the left-wing and has used his pace and fantastic ability to cut inside to his advantage.
Would Perisic be a good signing for Chelsea?
While there is no doubting the ability that Perisic possesses, spending £48million for a player who will likely play as a back-up to Eden Hazard does seem a bizarre move.
The 28-year-old Inter star is not a particularly versatile player and has rarely been deployed in any position other than left wing during his entire career.
While Hazard is more adaptable and can play in a number of positions across the midfield, it is highly unlikely that Conte will want to alter the Belgian’s position after such a prolific season.
